The Results

Yesterday, I just got back from genting after having a crazy bday celebration at Awana. Now i’m still getting excited when reviewing those photos I took that night. Really enjoy partying hehe :)

One of the interesting part for me on that night, was a photo session with my friend – Keiron, outside the hall. It was a very random attempt without any prior preparation at all. The venue, the lighting, the crops, were unprepared for a proper shooting. So, I told myself, with my shallow knowledge, inspiration and experience, I should be able to do it, and I can do it properly. So I settle down, calm myself down, observe the surrounding, and Let’s do it! The adrenaline is rushing in my body, making me so excited to do the shots, because with such photogenic model, I can’t miss the chance! Yeah man!

Inspiration gets in my head when I need them, all thanks to normal daily homework I did – browsing works from photographers all over the world. Without fail. I observed their shots, their techniques, their editing, their model pose, and I tried my best to apply the idea with the surrounding objects.

Another thing I learned was how to use strobing more properly and precisely, and estimating the light I need in such surroundings. Wireless TTL doesn’t really gave me the effect I wanted. So, without any hesitation, I get myself in some logical thinking, thought of the flash power, the flash distance from the object, the flash angle etc. and finally tried it out by using wireless manual flash, and with only few attempts, I get my shots done. It was really an intense session for me, to think, to react and to shoot.  Luckily I’ve got another friend, kian boon to hold the flash for me, helping me to adjust the flash from the object. truly appreciate it :)

And also, I’ve learned that at outdoor, especially at dark places, wireless TTL doesn’t work when the flash is behind the camera, so the limit of the flash distance is almost same level with the camera. Maybe that’s because the infrared can’t get to the flash when the flash is behind the camera. That’s what i think la. most probably my hypothesis is true hehe.

After the shots, I’m very glad with the results shown in the small 3 inch LCD screen of my camera, and can’t wait to go back home start editing and get the results done! I’m also very grateful that I did my homework on normal days, and some inspiration just popped out when I need them. In the editing part, I mainly used lightroom 3.2 to adjust exposures, clarity, vibrance, post-vignette, cropping and used picasa 3 to remove unwanted elements and blemishes in the photos. And after hours of works in front of my PC, finally I’m done! My tiredness finally is rewarded with satisfied results produced by my own hand. Felt proud of it.

I have the habit of taking my own sweet time editing, and review, walk away, or straight go to sleep. Then the next day, when I’m really fresh again, I’ll review the images, if they are still in my liking, then only I’ll post them up in facebook and flickr. Sometimes when I really have some favourite shot, I’ll post them up at photography forum too :) For those who didn’t pass my second review, too bad, they will undergo another round of editing ;) I’m very picky and try to be as perfect as possible.

That’s my style.

So, I’ve finished the talking and now let’s see the results. Here’s 2 of my favourite shots, first is the idea of showing his watch, personally i love this shot because of the lighting which I think is nice, and the expression and pose by Keiron. Second photo I’m trying to freeze his jumping action when crossing the fence, and the lighting result was quite satisfying on his limb and overall, just a little dislike on the harsh shadow casted on his nose. The background was not very nice, but what to do, that’s something I can’t really demand about. :/

Honestly, I’m still excited and happy when looking at those photos I produced. truly a nice shooting session. ;)

Here’s the rest of the photos in slideshow. I also uploaded the photos to flickr. If you want to have a look at some details after I put alot of effort in editing, removing blemishes, feel free to drop by my flickr photostream.

Hope to have more sessions like this and gain better improvements in the next shooting. See ya.
